Dear Doctors and Parents of Children with Food Allergies,

Please feel free to distribute this letter to your patients.

I would like to inform you about an important program that can benefit your child and the lives of other children at our local schools.

Food allergy is a growing problem and may lead to a serious, life-threatening reaction. Anaphylaxis is the most feared complication resulting from a food allergy.

Food allergies are not curable, but anaphylaxis as a result of a food allergy is treatable and preventable!

What can you do?

Follow these simple steps:

  • Inform your child’s school administrators, teachers and school nurse about your child’s food allergies. Be specific!
  • Be proactive about making sure your child’s school has epinephrine autoinjectors (EpiPen or EpiPen Jr., Auvi-Q) available to use in the event of anaphylaxis. (see below)
  • Advocate for your child and other children to increase awareness and understanding of food allergies and the importance of strict avoidance. It is NOT easy!
  • Always store your child’s epinephrine autoinjector properly and make sure it is not expired.

The EpiPen4Schools program was created to allow qualified schools to obtain EpiPen Auto-Injectors at no-cost. This access is important because epinephrine is the only first-line treatment for life-threatening allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). Each eligible school can receive up to four FREE EpiPen or EpiPen Jr Auto-Injectors in the form of two EpiPen 2-Pak® cartons, two EpiPen Jr 2-Pak® cartons, or one 2-Pak of each kind. Each EpiPen 2-Pak contains two single auto-injectors, instructions for use and a training device, with no drug product or needle, to help patients become familiar with the administration technique.

Visit http://www.epipen4schools.com/ and download the forms necessary for your child’s school to take advantage of this FREE program.

Please join me in this fight to protect our children.

Life threatening reactions to food allergies are preventable and treatable!

Sincerely,

A pleasure to work with!

Dr. Rima Sanka has been working closely with CKS for many years to secure Epi-pens through the Epi-pens 4 Schools Program. This has allowed CKS to stock medication that provides life-saving treatment for the students and teachers. She is a pleasure to work with and quick to respond if any issues arise with the order. I feel fortunate to collaborate with a Board Certified Allergist from our local community.
